Dental implants are the ideal way to replace missing teeth. The success rate is very high and patients are able once again to chew on a solidly anchored tooth or teeth, just like if it was natural. It is fixed meaning it stays in place and does not come out.
The dental implant itself is a small titanium screw that is anchored to the jaw. You normally cannot see the implant except in an x-ray, but many of the photos here show the “healing cap” which is a cover that goes over the implant while healing. Later, the healing cap is removed and a “custom abutment” placed which is a small post that screws into the implant. Now a porcelain crown is cemented permanently over the custom abutment. A crown is an artificial natural looking replica of a tooth.

The process involves two phases: surigcal phase were the implant is placed, and the restorative phase were the implant is restored with a custom abutment and porcelain crown. It takes 3-4 months after the surgical phase for the implant to heal and integrate. Only after this time lapse can the restorative phase begin.
The surgical phase is done at our office by Dr. Oliver, an excellent periodontist who has performed numerous cases in this office. The restorative phase is done by Dr. Rodriguez.
